TakeCut is a video editing app: you upload or record raw footage, and TakeCut automatically cuts silence, filler words, and bad takes, then burns in captions. This page explains, plainly, what data that requires, who touches it along the way, and what control you have over it.
Account information. When you create a TakeCut account, we collect your email address. If you sign in with Google or Apple instead of a password, we receive the basic identifier and email address those services share with us to verify who you are — TakeCut never sees your Google or Apple password.
Your content. The raw video and audio clips you upload or record in the app, the edits you make, and the finished videos TakeCut produces for you. If you record directly in-app, TakeCut asks for camera, microphone, and photo library access — only to let you capture or select footage, never in the background and never without that on-screen permission prompt.
Usage & device information. TakeCut does not run any analytics or advertising SDKs. Standard technical logs (like IP address and timestamps) are generated automatically by our infrastructure providers as part of handling any app request — the same way any web server logs traffic — and are used only for security and reliability, not to build a profile of you.
When you submit a clip for editing, here's the actual path it takes:
No third party gets your videos for any purpose beyond performing the specific step above.
TakeCut is built on a small number of specialized providers, each handling one job. We don't sell your data to anyone, and we don't share it with data brokers or advertisers.
| Provider | What they handle |
|---|---|
| Supabase | Account database, authentication, and (for now) video file storage |
| Cloudflare R2 | Video file storage, as we migrate large files off Supabase Storage |
| AssemblyAI | Speech-to-text transcription used to find cuts and generate captions |
| Sieve | Optional AI eye-contact correction, only for clips where you enable it |
| Google / Apple | Sign-in, if you choose that option instead of email |
| RevenueCat | Subscription management, layered on top of Apple's and Google's own billing |
Each of these providers has its own privacy practices governing the systems they operate; we only send them the minimum data each needs to do its one job.
Your finished, edited videos are kept until you delete them or delete your account — they're the whole point of using TakeCut, so we don't touch them.
Your original raw footage is automatically deleted 30 days after it's been successfully edited, since by then you have your finished video and the raw source is just taking up space. If you go back to re-edit a project after that window, TakeCut will let you know your original needs to be re-uploaded — your existing edited video is never affected.
Deleting your account deletes your stored videos and account data from our systems within a reasonable operational window.
TakeCut subscriptions are billed through the Apple App Store or Google Play, using RevenueCat to keep your subscription status in sync. TakeCut never sees or stores your card number — that's handled entirely by Apple or Google, per your device's account.
TakeCut is not directed at children, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your region). If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we'll delete it.
Your data is encrypted in transit, and access to our production systems is restricted to what's needed to operate them. No system is perfectly secure, but we treat your videos and account data as sensitive by default.
TakeCut's infrastructure providers operate servers in the United States and elsewhere. By using TakeCut, you understand your information may be processed in a country other than where you live, under this policy.
If TakeCut's data practices change in a meaningful way — like adding a new feature that processes video differently — we'll update this page and change the effective date above. Significant changes will also be surfaced in the app.
